Middlesex Community College President Leads Middletown Rotary Club

New Rotary's President Nieves & Outgoing President Mario Mazzotta MIDDLETOWN –Wilfredo Nieves, president of Middlesex Community College (MxCC) assumes the leadership of the Middletown Rotary Club.

Nieves, as the Rotary’s new president, reflected on the years he has been a member of the Middletown Rotary, saying “I believe in their principles of service above self and the Rotary Four Way Test that emphasizes truth, fairness, friendship and community. Those are principles that I value and I believe that the College, in its efforts to address the needs of the community, also embraces. Being involved in the Rotary gives me the opportunity to meet with like-minded individuals from the business and professional communities.”

Rotary clubs are nonreligious, nongovernmental, and open to every race, culture, and creed. Club membership represents a cross-section of local business and professional leaders. In his years at MxCC, Nieves has worked towards making Middlesex Community College not only accessible but welcoming for students of all ethnicities. For this purpose, he started the President’s Committee on Diversity, which meets monthly to plan events that build multicultural awareness at the college and in the community.

The Middletown Rotary Club meets every week to plan a wide variety of service activities. For more information, contact Wilfredo Nieves at 860-343-5701 or wnieves@mxcc.commnet.edu.
