On Your Mark! Get Set! Go! Participants take off running at the start of the MxCC $cholarship 5K Run & Walk on October 27, held to earn money for the MxCC Scholarship Foundation which provides scholarships to MxCC students. |
Participants came to the college from all over the state to run, walk and raise money for MxCC scholarships. Towns included Middletown, New Britain, Cromwell, Durham, Moodus, Fairfield, West Hartford, Haddam, Canton, Portland, Meriden, and Cheshire. Participants even came to the event from as far as Massachusetts and New York State! Middletown Mayor, Sebastian Giuliano, was official starter for the 5K. The overall winner of the event was Douglas Pearse, age 21 from New Britain with a time of 19:32, with a close second by Louis Tobia, age 12 from Cromwell with a time of 21:00, and in third place, Harold Etheringer of Durham with a time of 21:11.
The race was part of MxCC’s homecoming event, which also included alumni awards, campus tours, and a health fair featuring a combination of traditional and nontraditional medicine. Greg Kline, director of Institutional Advancement, thanked the many wonderful sponsors that made the event possible and in particular the two lead sponsors, Aetna and United Healthcare/Oxford.

MxCC would like to congratulate Professor and Coordinator of Human Services, Judith Felton, who was the first place female MxCC employee as well as the 1st place female in her category with a time of 32:21, and Michael Amouzou, associate director of Financial Aid, who was the first place male MxCC employee with a time of 38:45 in MxCC’s 4th Annual Scholarship 5K Run & Walk, held on Saturday, October 27, 2007. This event was an opportunity for MxCC to bring back alumni and welcome people who may not be familiar with the college. The proceeds from the Run & Walk go to the MxCC Foundation Inc. which provides scholarships for MxCC students. |
