"Relaciones de Familia"
Paintings by Maria Gabriela Galarza-Block
September 18 – November 8, 2006
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 21, 12:15- 2:00 PM

Galarza-Block has exhibited her paintings throughout Connecticut and maintains a studio in the Parkville section of Hartford. Her childhood in Santa Lucia de los Astos, Argentina, and large family’s dynamics serve as the basis for her expressionist imagery. Her large-scale canvases consume viewers to deliver a dialogue that addresses issues of individualism, place, family, psychosis and communication. This body of work powerfully overlays saturated applications of color and image to produce works that tap into aspects of a universally human experience. Galarza-Block has developed the overlapping house series over many years and has gradually allowed the translucent, interpenetrating, imploding and dissolving architectonics of the “home” form to morph into anatomically referent symbols and ambiguous emotive fields of color.

The Pegasus Gallery is located on the first floor of Chapman Hall.

Hours: Monday & Wednesday – 5pm - 8pm and Saturday – 9:30am- 1:30pm
