All online classes and some on-ground classes at Middlesex Community College use Blackboard Vista, which was upgraded from WebCT Vista 3 in summer of 2008.

Special Edition - Ed. Tech. News No. 2 of Spring 2008
Special Edition - Ed. Tech. News No. 3 of Spring 2008

Science Man

  1. Starting Summer I, May 20, WebCT Vista 3 we are currently using will be upgraded to Vista 4, called Blackboard Vista.

  2. Starting June 1, the current WebCT server will be taken down.  All student incomplete work in WebCT needs to be arranged to finish offline from June 1 to July 31.  Starting August 1, incomplete students can resume accessing to Spring 2008 classes.
  1. Learning Blackboard Vista is much easier for current WebCT Vista users since the two versions are similar.  Demos and Workshops will be offered for faculty in early May and throughout the summer at MxCC and other community colleges.  Training manual and online tutorials (in myWebCT-Orientation course) will be provided to assist faculty learning the basic features.
  1. All Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 courses (content and student work) will be transferred to the Blackboard Vista production server between June 1 and July 31.
  1. The Distance Learning staff will take care of transferring current WebCT courses to the Blackboard Vista server.  Messages will be posted along the way for information we need from you regarding course transfer.

Important Timeline for Course Deletion

  1. Starting March 21, all Spring 2006 and Summer 2006 courses will be deleted from current server and they are irretrievable.
  1. Starting May 20, all Spring 2007 courses will be deleted and they are irretrievable.
  1. Starting June 1, all Summer 2007 courses will be deleted and they are irretrievable.

Distance Learning office has created templates (course content) for all online courses offered during the above semesters.  The templates will be transferred to Blackboard Vista server.

To transfer on-ground courses that are using WebCT extensively and have not been rolled over as of Fall 2007, contact Distance Learning.  Email information including the semester, course Title, and its CRN to Yi Guan-Raczkowski at yguan@mxcc.commnet.edu.  You can find the course Title and CRN in myWebCT page.

Important Timeline for Course Development

  1. Development of Summer 2008 courses can be on the current server until April 14.  Starting May 1, the development of WebCT courses will be on the development server of Blackboard Vista.
  1. Between May 21 to May 30, all repeat online Spring 2008 courses will be rolled over to the Fall 2008 course shell.   To roll-over on-ground courses using WebCT extensively, email the course Title and its CRN to Yi Guan-Raczkowski at yguan@mxcc.commnet.edu.
  1. Development of Fall 2008 courses will still be on the current server until May 31 .  Between June 1 and July 31, development of Fall 2008 is not available on any servers.  Faculty may prepare and work on class files offline.
  1. Starting August 8, development of Fall 2008 courses will be on the production server of Blackboard Vista.
