COURSE OVERVIEW:

The 21st Century will continue to be characterized by chaotic, transformational, rapid-fire change.  No one is willing to predict what the world will be like 50, 25, or even 15 years from now.  Change is just too rapid.

In the last decade, an abundance of evidence shows that skillful management is the key determinant of organizational success.  The research shows that if organizations want to succeed, they must have competent, skillful managers.

The student preparing for a management career needs an understanding of the characteristics of effective managers.  A recent survey of highly successful organizations shows that “The Most Frequently Cited Skills of Effective Managers” are:

  • Verbal and written communication (including listening)
  • Managing time and stress
  • Recognizing, defining, and solving problems
  • Motivating and influencing others
  • Delegating
  • Setting goals and articulating a vision
  • Self-awareness
  • Team building
  • Managing conflict

The goal of BMG 202 Management is for each student to develop an understanding of the skills required for success in small and large business organizations.  The course will focus on:

  • Meeting and Exceeding Customers Expectations
  • The ability to use information to solve problems
  • The need to develop Mission, Vision, and Core Principle statements
  • The ability to identify opportunities for innovation
  • Set standards for yourself and subordinates
  • Set priorities and manage time to advantage
  • The need to set self-improvement goals and strategies for personal success.
