Faculty Electronic Resources

MxCC provides online resources to keep faculty connected to and provide online support in various capacities.
Faculty need to know their NetID and password to log on to campus computers, myCommNet, and MxCC e-mail.

MxCC E-Mail


While on a teaching contract with MxCC, you are issued a college-provided e-mail account.

Your email address is as follows:
First initial of your first name followed by your last name @mxcc.commnet.edu.
For example, if your name is Jane Smith, your email address would be jsmith@mxcc.commnet.edu.

It is expected that you check this account regularly to ensure you receive important college communications.  To check your email, open a web browser such as Internet Explorer, go to www.mail.commnet.edu.  Enter your NetID and 8+ character password.  Visit the myCommNet site for more information on your NetID and password.

You can also access your email from campus computers once you've initiated set-up in Microsoft Outlook.

For access to all of your computing needs at MxCC, log on to myCommNet. myCommNet gives you access to:

  • viewing rosters and student information,
  • send email to all students in your courses,
  • use Blackboard Vista for on-ground and online courses,
  • access library databases from off-campus and more!

To log on to myCommNet, go to my.commnet.edu and enter your NetID and password. 

Faculty Self-Service

Located on the Faculty tab within myCommnet, Faculty Self-service enables faculty to access rosters, class information, and enter grades. Sign into myCommNet to access Faculty Self-service. Click on the Faculty tab and click Faculty Self-service. This will bring you to a menu of items available in Self-service. Click any link to view records.

Library Access

Located on the Library tab within myCommnet, faculty, staff and students can access library holdings, ebooks, perform searches through inter-library loan and access the library's scholarly journals. Sign into myCommNet to access the Library. Click on the Library tab. The page is divided into two sides; on the right you'll see library contact information and services. Click the Middlesex Community College library link to display the search engine and links for ILL and ebooks. If you scroll down, you'll see the databases organized by topic. Clicking any of the database links will bring you to the search engine for that particular database.

Blackboard Vista

Each credit course is given a "course shell" in Blackboard Vista, MxCC's online learning management system. Blackboard Vista is used for fully online courses and by on-ground instructors who'd like to upload syllabi and lecture notes, communicate with students via announcements, calendar, and internal course e-mail, and leverage the power of Blackboard tools.

Access your Blackboard Vista shell by signing in to myCommNet and clicking the Blackboard link in the upper-right corner of the screen. This will display a list of semester links; select the appropriate semester. This will display a list of courses; click a course name to enter that course. Training in Blackboard is offered throughout the year. For more information, visit our Workshops site.

Campus Computer Labs

Computer labs are available on the Middletown and Meriden campuses. Computer lab hours are determined on a semester basis. Open hours are posted in labs. Computers can be used by any student who has an active NetID and password

Middletown:
            Wheaton 305- Open Computer Lab with PCs and Macs
            Snow 412– Open Mac Lab
            Chapman– Located in the Jean Burr Smith Library– Open Lab with PCs and Macs
            Wireless connection is available in the Student Lounge in Founders Hall for students with laptops that are capable of wireless connectivity.
Meriden:
           Room 404 and Room  407
           Wireless connection is available in the 5th floor student lounge in the Meriden Center for students with laptops that are capable of wireless connectivity.

Academic Advising site

Your online center for information on degree requirements, majors and certificates, forms needed for advising and registration, and academic advising contacts at MxCC. All full- and part-time faculty can access the Academic Advising site from their My Blackboard page in three easy steps:

1. Log in at my.commnet.edu with NetID and password.

2. Click Blackboard Vista icon in the upper-right corner of the myCommNet home page.

3. Click the Fall 2008 link.

4. Click MxCC– Academic Advising- Advising Information
