Transfer Guidelines for Middlesex Students
Central Connecticut State University |
Transfer Student Admissions
A student wishing to transfer to CCSU must complete an application for admission and have official transcripts sent directly from each high school and post-secondary school attended. Transfer students who have earned a minimum of 12 credits (not including remedial course work) need not present scores on the SAT I. To be considered for transfer admissions, a student must have a cumulative college grade point average of 2.00 or higher for all course work attempted.
Applications are accepted for both the fall and spring semesters. It is strongly recommended that you apply as soon as possible for each semester; before or by January 1 for the fall semester and from June – October for the spring semester. Applying early will allow for a good selection of classes, placement in housing and for the timely completion of the financial aid process. You may still apply to CCSU after these dates but your admissions decision and your other options may not be as favorable. Final dates for applications are June 1 for fall and December 1 for spring.
Transfer Credit Evaluation
A grade of "C-" or better is required for transfer. Remedial or developmental courses will not transfer to CCSU. Please note, regardless of the number of credits transferred, a student must complete a minimum of 45 credits at CCSU in order to earn the University’s bachelor’s degree. To determine how Middlesex courses transfer to CCSU, please visit the University’s transfer equivalency site at: http://www.ccsu.edu/admission/transfer_student.htm
Connecticut Community College Transfers
Students who graduate from one of the Connecticut Community Colleges with an associate degree, and a minimum 2.00 GPA, are guaranteed admission to CCSU (and the other 3 CSU schools as well). Transfer credits will count toward degree requirements as determined by equivalency to CCSU courses. Qualified students may also be admitted after completing 12 or more CC credits.
Transfer Contacts The Career Development & Counseling Center (CDCC) at Middlesex works closely with CCSU (and other state and private four year colleges as well) to ensure a successful transfer process for Middlesex students. Please use the office as a resource when making career and course selection decisions. The CDCC office is located in Founders Hall, Room 121, 860-343-5826.
Financial Aid
If you are interested in receiving Financial Aid, you must complete Financial Aid forms in a timely and accurate manner. Pay close attention to all directions and deadlines and know that it is your responsibility to make sure your file is complete in the Financial Aid office. Priority deadline for Aid is March 1 for the fall semester, but you may apply later, with awards subject to remaining available funds. See the CCSU web site at: http://www.ccsu.edu/FinAid/default.htm.

How College Credits Work
At most colleges, students are required to earn credit in three areas:
1) General Education Requirements - liberal arts courses in the areas of English, math, fine arts, foreign language, science, philosophy, history and social science;
2) Major Field of Study Requirements - Business, Education, Engineering, Social Work, etc.; and
3) Electives - a limited number of self-selected courses.
The transfer information in this handout is broken down into these three areas.
General Education Program at CCSU
The following information serves as a guide to using Middlesex courses to complete the General Education requirements at CCSU. All credit bearing Middlesex courses transfer to CCSU; however, there are specific courses required to meet major field of study and/or general education requirements. These requirements are subject to change as new courses are added or changes are made by CCSU. To see how Middlesex courses transfer to Central and which courses may or may not meet CCSU’s General Education requirements, visit the CCSU transfer web page at: http://www.ccsu.edu/admission/transfer_student.htm
Please Note: There are mandatory general education courses for a number of majors at CCSU and the list below does not address these requirements. You can use the CCSU catalog or web site to obtain this information. You can also work with a counselor in the Career Development & Counseling Center or your advisor if you have questions regarding the choice of appropriate transfer courses.
