For the fall 2006 semester, Middlesex Community College has launched the "College Success Learning Community," a cluster of four courses for new students who selected to participate. The Learning Community students have the same sections of writing, reading, computers, and Freshman Seminar for the fall 2006 semester. For spring 2007, the students will share common math and writing courses.
The purpose of the Learning Community is to ease students' transition to college; offer more individualized attention from faculty; provide an integrative approach to course work; sharpen critical thinking skills; encourage skill use across the curriculum; build a solid base for students to launch their college years; and inspire persistence to next semester.
The Learning Community, though, is not all studies. One goal is to help students foster a stronger connection to MxCC. This October, the Learning Community students will be having lunch with the President and the Deans. In December, the students will be traveling to New York through the Student Activities Office.
