MxCC provides technology resources to keep students connected to the

college and provide online support in varying academic capacities.

To take advantage of the most of the resources listed below, students

will need a NetID and password. Visit the NetID site for more information

on your NetID and password.

MyCommNet

MyCommNet is an entry point to access Student Self-Service, Blackboard Vista, and Library Databases.  For example, myCommNet gives you access to:

-Your final grades, registration, transcripts, course search, course schedule, textbook, on-ground course evaluation
-Online courses and on-ground courses that use Blackboard,
-Financial aid awards and history,
-Billing records and history,
-Library database access from off-campus, and more!

To log on to myCommNet, go to my.commnet.edu and enter your NetID and password. Visit the myCommNet page for more information on your NetID and password.

Student Self-service- Registration/Textbook/Grades/Transcripts/Evaluation via MyCommNet

Located on the Student tab within myCommnet, Student Self-service enables students to access course schedules, textbook information, register for classes, view financial aid history, course evaluation, check final grades, and more. Sign into myCommNet to access Student Self-service. Click on the Student tab and click Student Self-service.  This will bring you to a menu of items available in Self-service. Click any link to view records. Follow these simple steps for Registration, Final Grades, and Student Transcript using myCommNet.

-Logon to my.commnet.edu using your NetID and password.
-Go to the Student Tab.
-Click on the link under Student Self-Service Channel.
- Click on Middlesex Community College.
-For Registration, click on Registration & Payment.
- For Course Schedule/Textbook, click on Registration & Payment. Click on Student Detail Schedule. Select a term (semester), select a course CRN, click on Submit. Click on Textbook Info link to check textbook for a course.
- For Grades or Transcripts, click on Student Records.
- - - a. Click on Final Grades, select a term then Submit.
- - - b. Click on Academic Transcript, select level (MxCC Credit), then Submit.
- - - You may view or print your final grades/transcript
-For Classroom Evaluation, click on Evaluate Your Courses.* This link is active three weeks prior to grade due day.

Under a course you would like to evaluate, click on Evaluate Course. Answer the questions and click on Submit Evaluation.
Click Logout (upper right) to exit from the web site.

Personal Emails in Student Self-Service

The Connecticut community college system does not provide students with a college email account.  When you apply for the college, you have an option to provide a personal email to the college for communication venue.   If you would like to update your email address or provide a new email address in the college system, you can do so in Student Self-Service.  It is important that you provide an active email to the college since your professor may use the email for course communication.   Please follow the steps below to enter (or update) a personal email to Student Self-Service.

    * Go to my.commnet.edu
    * Enter your NetID (BannerID@student.commnet.edu) and password, click Login.
    * Once you are in myCommNet, click on the Student tab. Click on the link under Student Self-Service.
    * Click Middlesex Community College.
    * Click Personal Information.
    * Click Update E-mail Address. Select Personal Email in Types of Email to Insert drop down menu. Click the Submit button.
    * Enter your valid email address twice and click Submit button.

Library Databases via MyCommNet

Through myCommNet, you can access MxCC Library holdings and can search for books and videos at MxCC and throughout the State. You can also access the online databases, which can be used to find academic journal articles in a wide variety of subject areas. Follow these simple steps to access Library Databases via myCommNet:

-Go to my.commnet.edu.
-Login using your NetID and password.
-Click on the Library Tab.
-Click Middlesex Community College located on the right side under the heading My Library Resources. You will see a box in which you can look for books. Scroll down to view a list of library databases. Click any database name to perform a search. More information about library databases can be found at the MxCC Library site.

Blackboard Vista via MyCommNet

Many classes at MxCC, both traditional and online, have an online course site supported by Blackboard Vista. On-ground professors use Blackboard Vista to host files (syllabus, PowerPoints, etc.), send class announcements and emails, and for submission of assignments and exams. Follow these steps to access your Blackboard Vista classes using myCommNet:

-Go to my.commnet.edu.
-Login using your NetID and password.
-Click on the Blackboard Vista icon  (upper-right). Popup blockers need to be disabled.
-Click on a course name.  You will be brought to the course Home Page.
-Once the Blackboard window opens, we suggest you log out of myCommNet to avoid timeout messages while working in Blackboard. Minimize the Blackboard window, and click Logout (upper-right) in the myCommNet window.
-To access another course, click My Blackboard (upper-right) and then click the course name.

*Note1: The Blackboard Vista server is off line from 3:00am to 5:00am every Friday for weekly maintenance.

Virtual Campus on Blackboard Vista

MxCC's Virtual site for information on campus events and announcements, Blackboard orientations, Blackboard tools practice areas, and links to tutoring and MxCC services!

- Log in at my.commnet.edu with NetID and password.

Library Research Help on Blackboard Vista

Every MxCC student and instructor is enrolled in the Blackboard Vista course MxCC – Library – Research Help. Here you can find:

- How to access the library resources from home
- Information about library services for distance learners
- Online research tutorials
- How to contact the library for help

Here’s how to access:

- Login at my.commnet.edu with NetID and password.
- Click on the Blackboard Vista icon at upper right. Popup blockers need to be disabled.
- Click on MxCC – Library – Research Help.

eTutoring- Free Online Tutoring!

Stuck on a math problem? Need an expert to help you with your research paper? Having trouble with your homework?
eTutoring can help. And, it’s FREE!

Tutoring in Math (Developmental through Calculus), Writing (all subject areas), Accounting, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy & Physiology. Leave your questions and an eTutor will respond within 24 hours. For help with papers, allow 48 hours for an eTutor to respond with expert suggestions for improvement!

To access this service, log onto www.etutoring.org, click on Login Now (middle).  Select Northeast eTutoring Consortium and select Middlesex Community College (CT), and create your account by clicking on Need an Account? link. For more information, contact the MxCC Learning Center at 860-343-5770.

Campus Computer Labs

Computer labs are available on the Middletown and Meriden campuses. Computer lab hours are determined on a semester basis. Open hours are posted in labs. Computers can be used by any student who has an active NetID and password.

Middletown:
            Wheaton 305- Open Computer Lab with PCs and Macs
            Snow 412– Open Mac Lab
            Chapman– Located in the Jean Burr Smith Library– Open Lab with PCs and Macs
            Open wireless connection is available in the Student Lounge in Founders Hall for students with laptops or mobile devices that are capable of wireless connectivity. 
            The periodical area in the college library is piloting a secured wireless network.  You may use your laptops or mobile devices in the area by logging on to the network with your NetID and password. 
Meriden:
           Room 404 and Room 407
           Wireless connection is available in the 5th floor student lounge in the Meriden Center for students with laptops or mobile devices that are capable of wireless connectivity.
