Dr. Larry Jetmore knows that successful law enforcement professionals have to be physically and mentally able to “step into harm’s way” when and if called to do so.  During his 20-year career with the Hartford Police Department, he worked every day to live up to that commitment – as patrol officer, investigator, commander, and ultimately police captain.

This dedication helped him rise through the ranks, holding such high-level positions as:

- Commander of the Vice and Narcotics Division
- Commander of the Police Academy
- Commander of the Special Weapons Assault Team (SWAT)
- Commander of the Investigative Services Bureau

Though now retired, Dr. Jetmore remains deeply involved in shaping the quality and scope of police training programs throughout the state.  He directs the criminal justice program at Middlesex Community College, a degree program which he designed using input and models from the best training schools around the country.  He also serves as full-time faculty member at MxCC, and is director of the National Police Testing Services, which creates and administers police examinations.

Dr. Jetmore continues to conduct research into predictive tools for police training, education, and career success.  He has written many articles and books about criminal justice forensics, supervision, and management, as well as civil services testing modalities, ethical paradigms in education and public service, and police testing methodology.

His most recent book, “The Path of the Hunter: Entering and Excelling in the Field of Criminal Investigation,” is a thorough guide to understanding how to get into the field of criminal investigations and how to become a world-class investigator.  In 1997, he wrote “The Path of the Warrior, An Ethical Guide to Personal and Professional Development” which is considered to be “one of the best” books on police ethics.

Dr. Jetmore earned his Ph.D. from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He also earned a master’s degree in education and criminal justice and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice (both from Eastern Connecticut State University), as well as an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Manchester Community College, Manchester, Conn.

Dr. Jetmore continues to follow the HPD’s mission: “to serve with competence, integrity, impartiality and respect for human dignity and individual freedom.”  Here at MxCC, he incorporates that into his philosophy of helping students build their own self-discipline, respect, integrity, and character –traits that make the best criminal justice professional.
