In all his sociology and anthropology courses, Dr. Ambenge is guided by a teaching philosophy that emphasizes active learning and thinking outside the box – in an environment where mutual respect is accorded to all.

Dr. Ambenge has developed this philosophy over the past 20 years while teaching at a variety of institutions including Quinebaug Valley Community College, Three Rivers Community College, Bay Path College, Springfield College, Eastern Connecticut State University, University of Connecticut, and Egerton University.  He has offered courses in Principles of Sociology, Social Problems, Social Psychology, Business and Society, Introduction to Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Sociology of Education, Social Stratification, Race, Class, and Gender, Personality and Social Structure, Deviant Behavior, and Sociology of the Family.

Dr. Ambenge is an innovator who has actively expanded and updated the sociology and anthropology curriculum at MxCC.  He was one of the first faculty members to use computer technology in the classroom and, for the past eight years, has taught sociology and anthropology courses on-line as well as on-site.  Currently, courses he offers include Sociology of the Family, Social Problems, Principles of Sociology, Introduction to Anthropology, and Cultural Anthropology.

Dr. Ambenge came to Middlesex Community College in 2000 with a doctoral degree in Sociology from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, and a wealth of teaching experience.  He has served as chair of the College Council, Faculty and Staff Professional Development, Sabbatical Professional Development, and was a member of the standing committees at several colleges.
